Building Deck Stairs in 3 Easy Steps

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Construction, Stairs,

First step is in building deck stairs is making the necessary calculations. This involves finding out the total rise and height that the designed stairs will have to cover. This is coupled by finding out the height or rise of each step. This helps in finding out the total horizontal distance that the stairs are likely to cover.

The second step is cutting the stringers. The notches made should first be cut using a circular saw, but the final touches should be made using a jigsaw for most accuracy.

The lat and final step is installing the treads and risers. These should overhang the stringers to give the staircase a more refined look but this is not a necessity. Between the treads there should be gaps left between, very little fraction of inches gaps. The aim is not to compact the treads together.
